sir oinks a lot s...@oinks.alot alt hackintosh yes!! you do still have to rip to hd first to write dvds unless you have an external dvd drive too then you can do a direct copy. another way may be is if there is enough memory that you have to swap dvds like the floppies in the old days.

It's better to store your backups on and external hard drive - but backing up to DVD is also an option (although you'll end up using several DVD's each time). DO NOT save it to your hard drive. If the hard drive dies, so do your images!!! The only exception to this is if the computer will only run v7 in it's Safe

problems booting from a partitioned external firewire drive
For that I used Ghost's boot disk wizard and literally tried all options (I used pc-dos)to create the boot disk hoping it would recognize the dvd's k: drive when in dos mode...But it doesn't. Any idea how to fool DVD Player? (VLC has been slightly problematic, complaining of lack of computing power, and giving playback glitches.) It won't work. VLC is the only way to do it. That's a pity. I don't suppose having an external DVD drive would suffice. Stuart.

I need an external DVD drive to read the miniDVD disks (8cm). Any recommendations? All I've found so far that will take 8cm disks say windows OS required. I have a few other external drives, both USB2 and FireWire, that read and write the miniDVDs fine, but don't run at the advertised 16x due to using a "cheap"

You just have to ask yourself what would not be in conflict when you are using a device. Everyone's situation is different. That's what I do now. Of course if my house burns down/is robbed that won't do me much good. I really need to keep that external drive offsite and update maybe once a month.

I do believe that the DVD has a folder for the regular XP Tablet install. into the tablet, hooked up the external DVD drive and powered on the laptop. Put it into your other machine with the adapter as a slave, partition and format it with FAT32 using fdisk or whatever partitioning program you like.

Add the problems that Vista will bring with DRM ... and the lack of standard for recordable DVD ... Your original question was if there was a way of using an external DVD drive. You can certainly use an external drive, if it is not of one of the unsupported makes, by installing DVD Region Free.
